Lakers vs. Timberwolves: The matchup
Austin Reaves continued to thrive for the Lakers Monday night in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers (122-108) with superstars Luka Doncic and LeBron James both missing time early in the season. The trouble was, Reaves was virtually a one-man show in scoring 41 points on 13-of-22 shooting and getting to the free throw line 14 times in the losing effort. For the season, Reaves is delivering consistent, dynamic showings in the midst of a level jump in his fourth season, and he’s averaging 34.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 9.7 rebounds with 56.6% field goal shooting with 41 and 51 points in the Lakers’ two most recent games.

The Timberwolves are dealing with injury issues of their own that played a role in their 127-114 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday night. Minnesota hung tough playing without guard Anthony Edwards (hamstring), who is also expected to miss Wednesday’s game, but saw the Nuggets pull away in the second half, thanks to Nikola Jokic’s third triple-double of the season (25-19-10) and Jamal Murray’s 43-point outburst.
