Thomas Frank has admitted that Tottenham failed to deal with Nick Woltemade, with the Newcastle United striker scoring the second goal in their EFL Cup tie.
Woltemade is on fire for Newcastle, with his goal against Tottenham continuing his hot streak and taking him to six goals in his first 11 games.
The German has certainly settled in well on Tyneside, filling the void left by Alexander Isak, who departed for Liverpool.

Woltemade is proving a handful even for the most competent defenders, something Tottenham found out on Wednesday evening.
Thomas Frank on Nick Woltemade
Thomas Frank was asked about Woltemade’s threat by Sky Sports after the match. The reporter asked: “How hard is it to mark a strong presence like Woltemade in the box?”
Frank replied: “I think we did not. So I think that situation was just a mistake. It happens. I’m not angry about it, it just happens.”
The 6’6” striker’s goal epitomised his boisterous nature at St James’ Park. He managed to defy the odds and get to the header first – exactly what you want in a striker: the desire to put your head where it hurts and ultimately get the goal.
Woltemade also took to Instagram after the game to express his delight with both the goal and the result, writing: “On a mission.”
Fabian Schar raves about Nick Woltemade
Woltemade is proving his doubters wrong on a game-by-game basis, and someone who has always backed him is his manager, alongside his teammates.
Fabian Schar spoke post-match about the German striker, saying: “As tall as he is, he’s immense! What a guy! He doesn’t just score goals. He’s a great character and deserves to settle in so well. I’m just really happy for him and for the whole team to have him here!”
The German will continue to go from strength to strength in a Newcastle shirt – no doubt.
