Crystal Palace’s Ismaïla Sarr added two goals to his tally for the season on Wednesday night, helping his side eliminate Liverpool from the EFL Cup with a 3-0 win at Anfield.
The Eagles have now beaten the reigning Premier League champions on three occasions this season, having claimed a 2-1 win in the league at Selhurst Park in late September and a win on penalties in the Community Shield.
Liverpool’s struggle for consistency continues with the club managing just one win and six defeats in its last seven games.
Sarr opened the scoring in the 41st minute, hitting a loose ball first-time from just past the penalty spot to put Palace in front.
The Senegalese international doubled the Eagles’ lead four minutes later, neatly tucking the ball into the bottom right corner from inside the area.
The 27-year-old has bagged four goal contributions in seven Premier League games this season to go with his two goals in the EFL Cup this season.
Having won the FA Cup last season and claiming the club’s first ever major trophy, Palace are poised to challenge for silverware again. The Eagles will face Arsenal in the EFL Cup quarterfinal on 16 December at the Emirates Stadium.
The two sides last met on 26 October at the Emirates, with Arsenal winning 1-0 thanks to a strike from former Palace superstar Eberechi Eze.
