Newcastle United send officials – Coming weeks will decide Magpies transfer effort

Earlier this month, Marca reported a Newcastle United scout watched Atlético Madrid’s Alexander Sørloth in their 5-2 derby win over Real Madrid in September.

Thursday’s edition of the same newspaper backs it up and reports Newcastle are still keeping an eye on the striker.

He has two goals from 11 matches this season and despite those figures not being impressive, the 29-year-old still managed to attract Newcastle interest.

Marca state the former Crystal Palace player is giving the impression of ‘apathy and a disconnect from the team’s dynamics’. Diego Simeone’s praise and the fans’ affection haven’t helped him improve his performances.

They point out the Norway international had a poor start to last season, with one goal from 11 matches. He finished the season with 24 goals and two assists from 53 matches.

The Spanish newspaper explain Sørloth’s performances between now and January could determine his future, from the perspective of Newcastle United watching him.

Julián Alvarez is first-choice striker for Los Rojiblancos. Marca state Sørloth will find it difficult to get regular minutes with Álex Baena recovers as the latter will be second choice.

With the English club lurking, it remains to be seen whether they will make advances. The Norwegian’s situation at Atlético can favour Newcastle as long as they are keen on signing him.
