BOSTON — The Celtics are on a winning streak for the first time this season, downing the Cavaliers 125-105 to pick up their first home win of the year. While it was a shootout early, the C’s sprinted ahead late in the second quarter. The Cavs put together multiple comeback bids, but the Celtics never let them get close to threaten the win.
Jaylen Brown had another stellar night, making him Wednesday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.
Brown’s played through a hamstring strain in the past week to open the season, but it hasn’t slowed him down much. He took on the brunt of the scoring load Wednesday, finishing with 30 points, five rebounds and four assists on 12-for-20 shooting, including 4-for-9 on 3s. Brown scored 22 points in the first half alone to help lead the Celtics to a 15-point halftime lead.
While the Celtics have endured some early struggles, Brown’s been a steady rock so far. He’s now averaging 26.8 points through his first five games of the year, and that’s with the hamstring strain he suffered in the preseason. The Celtics will need Brown to step up throughout the season with Jayson Tatum sidelined, and he’s done just that.
The C’s have bounced back after their 0-3 start to the season, winning their last two games, including Wednesday’s blowout victory. Cleveland came into the season with real title aspirations, and while the Cavs were shorthanded Wednesday, that was still a solid victory for Boston. But the road doesn’t get much easier for the Celtics as they face the 76ers and Rockets this upcoming weekend.
It was still a much-needed night for the Celtics. They got contributions across the board for the victory, including new starter Josh Minott putting up 11 points and 14 rebounds. Sam Hauser (21 points), Payton Pritchard (10 points, 10 assists) and Neemias Queta (10 points, 13 rebounds) were also crucial in the victory.
