Morgan Gibbs-White is determined to make sure Nottingham Forest do not ‘bow down’ to a resurgent Manchester United this weekend.

After making a winning start to new head coach Sean Dyche’s tenure in the Europa League, the Reds were brought back down to earth against Bournemouth last Sunday. They were very much second best on the south coast as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to leave them stuck in the Premier League relegation zone.

Forest have not won in the league since the opening day of the season, when Nuno Espirito Santo was still at the helm to oversee a 3-1 triumph over Brentford. Ange Postecoglou picked up just a solitary point during his disastrous 39-day reign, and now it is on Dyche to turn the club’s fortunes around.

United have had their own troubles in recent years but appear to have turned a corner under Ruben Amorim and are up to sixth in the table. They head to the City Ground for Saturday’s clash (3pm kick-off) on the back of three straight league wins, but Gibbs-White says the Reds must focus on themselves rather than their visitors’ form.

“It’s been incredible to see,” the Forest playmaker said of United’s resurgence in an interview with Stan Sport (via GOAL). “Obviously they’ve been going through a tough time in the past couple of years.

“But they have stuck with the gaffer and the past four or five games you are really starting to see how Man United should be playing - that grit and that determination to want to play for the badge. I feel like it’s been incredible to see. It’s something I feel like the league’s missed.

“But all we can do is focus on ourselves. We can’t focus on how Man United are doing and how their performances are because if we do that then we are almost bowing down to them.

“We have got to focus on what we want to do and how we can win the game. I feel like this week we’ve already started to implement some ideas and obviously we’ve still got a few more days until the game so I’m sure the gaffer will have more ideas of how we can beat them.”

With no midweek game, Dyche will have had a full week on the training ground with his players by the time Saturday comes around. It will be his third match at the helm, having steered the Reds to a 2-0 win over Porto prior to taking on the Cherries.

Gibbs-White scored his first goal of the season from the penalty spot to set Forest on their way to victory over the Portuguese outfit a week ago. The England international has previously said he grew up supporting United.
