Chelsea beat Wolves 4-3 at Molineux to keep their Carabao Cup run going. The score got closer late in the game, but the result puts Enzo Maresca’s team in the last eight and sets up an away game at Cardiff City on December 15.
Andrey Santos, Tyrique George, and Estevao all scored in the first half to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. After the break, Wolves scored goals through Tolu Arokodare and David Moller Wolfe, bringing the score to 3-2 as the Blues lost Liam Delap to two yellow cards in seven minutes after he came back from injury.
Jamie Gittens scored the fourth goal, which was the game-winner for Chelsea, who made a lot of changes from the weekend. The Blues dominated the first part of the game and turned pressure into goals. Santos scored first, George finished a Gittens delivery, and Estevao chipped Jose Sa after pressing forced a turnover.
Wolves got better in the second half after making substitutions that changed the way midfielders fought. Arokodare scored soon after the break, and Wolfe scored twice from long throws that went to the far post. The comeback wasn’t enough, and Chelsea moved on. The Blues will play Cardiff in the quarter-finals. Other matches include Arsenal vs. Crystal Palace, Manchester City vs. Brentford, and Newcastle vs. Fulham.
Enzo Maresca’s words after Chelsea narrowly get past Wolves
After Chelsea beat Wolves 4–3 in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup at Molineux on October 29, 2025, Enzo Maresca talked about discipline, game management, and selection. His comments came after a late red card for Liam Delap, who came on as a substitute before Wolves’ late push.
Maresca said that they need to get better at controlling the game after their 3-0 lead at halftime turned into a one-goal lead. He also talked about the red card:
“For sure, today also we had a very stupid red card that is completely unnecessary.”
Asked whether the dismissal was deserved, he replied:
“Absolutely yes. Stupid foul. Because it’s two yellow cards in seven minutes. Both I think we can avoid. After the yellow card, I told him four or five times to keep calm.”
Maresca talked more about the bigger idea of squad growth:
“It’s part of the journey of this team, this squad, that needs to grow up, to make experience to get better.”
