NFL power rankings: AFC South Week 9

Eight weeks of the 2025 NFL season have been completed. Each week, we’ll monitor every team in the AFC South with an eye towards their ability to compete for the divisional crown. Here’s how the four teams stack up after eight weeks of action.

The Colts have played consistently well, and it’s led them to not only the top of the AFC South but also the best record in the NFL. They’ve blown out the bad teams they faced, including the Tennessee Titans twice, the Miami Dolphins, and the Las Vegas Raiders. They’ve played the good teams well with a last-second win over the Denver Broncos and a close loss to the Los Angeles Rams. They let a bad Arizona Cardinals team hang around, but pulled it out and comfortably beat a Los Angeles Chargers team depleted with injuries. They are now getting to the tough part of their schedule over the second half of the season and will be tested, but are well-rounded enough to win the division and put up 11-12 wins this year.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-3)

The Jaguars are sliding in the division while the Houston Texans make a push for them. Jacksonville had their bye hit this past week and were able to get some rest, get some guys closer to recovery, and attempt to fix some of their issues. They make sense as a team that could add a player on each side of the ball before the trade deadline passes. The possible deadline move(s) the week they face the Texans could go a long way in keeping them ahead of Houston in the division and the playoff hunt.

Houston has won three of their last four games. They have a tough matchup with the Denver Broncos coming to town this week before they host the Jaguars in the following game. If they can pull out a home win over Denver, then it’d set them up to make a move in the division the following week if they can keep the winning streak going over a Jacksonville team that beat them earlier this season. The Texans follow the Jaguars game with what should be an easily winnable game against the Tennessee Titans. The season is now for Houston.

4. Tennessee Titans (1-7)

The Titans rank higher in the power rankings for the team with the best chance for the top overall pick, rather than being in any conversation for the division. They don’t have enough quality players to compete in games this year, and the few that they do have, the team has already started moving, with the exceptions being the youth, including Cam Ward and star, Jeffery Simmons.
