Liverpool handed massive transfer blow in race for£30m star

Liverpool and other European giants from home and abroad have been dealt a major transfer blow in their pursuit of Crystal Palace central defender Marc Guehi. The Selhurst Park side have now decided they will definitely want to cash in on him in the winter transfer window rather than losing him for free in the summer.

The Reds were only an arm’s length distance from landing Guehi on deadline day of the summer window. Crystal Palace decided to pull the plug on the deal at the very last moment as they failed to find a replacement in the heart of their defence.

Another major development in the Marc Guehi saga is the recent comments by Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner. The boss has stated that it is a certainty that the English defender will be leaving the club in the near future.

What’s the latest at Crystal Palace?

The top brass at the Eagles want to reap the rewards of the terrific start to the 2025/26 season. Marc Guehi could fetch a handsome figure for the London-based team if they sell him in the January window, with interest pouring in from several European heavyweights.

The money earned from the sale of Guehi would then be invested in the squad to propel Crystal Palace towards a strong finish at the business end of the season. The club will not agree to a discounted sale as they feel they have a solid product ready for the market that they want to capitalise on.

What did Oliver Glasner say about Guehi?

The manager stated that Crystal Palace’s intentions of holding onto Guehi were clear from the start. However, they were not surprised by the 26-year-old centre back’s decision to seek greener pastures elsewhere. Oliver Glasner has been quoted as saying by Goal –

“I think Marc has already told us that he doesn’t sign a new contract, so he will leave next year. The club wanted [him to stay]. They offered Marc a new contract. But he said, ‘no, I want to make something different’. And that’s normal.

And for us, it’s how we can deal with this situation? [What] is the best way to get this next step done? And that’s all about how we are talking together.”

Interest in Guehi from European giants

Chelsea are being implored by many to sign another centre-back so they could yet make a move to bring their former player home. He would certainly add some serious steel to the Blues squad and make them a stronger contender for the 2nd half of the season.

The Spanish duo of Real Madrid and Barcelona are keen on securing the services of the Crystal Palace captain. It will be an interesting transfer battle between the clubs, who have contested for numerous players in the past.

Bayern Munich are also alert to the situation and will attempt to sign Guehi in three months. The keenness from other European suitors has suddenly pushed Liverpool behind Real, Barca and Bayern despite enjoying a commanding position on the transfer previously.

The upcoming months will be crucial in determining the future of a promising defender in Marc Guehi amid the inconsistent start from the club which made so many changes in the summer.
