Reports suggest that Chelsea are quietly preparing for a PL manager as doubts grow around Enzo Maresca.
Pressure mounts on Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca
Chelsea’s run suffered a big blow losing to Sunderland in the PL on the weekend. That also took away the good feelings that were running through the Blues due to the key victories over Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. On top of that, the ninth position in the PL has brought back doubts at Stamford Bridge.
A side that was regarded as the best in the league is now facing the downside of their situation. The head coach Maresca’s plans of building the squad with youngsters have met with disapproval. This comes after the team had some poor defensive showing and also, wasted chances to score.
The issue of dismissing the head coach will come when Tottenham Hotspur visits. If the situation does not improve, the management might run out of tolerance with the coach.
Andoni Iraola in the frame
There are several names coming up and one of them is Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola. He has supposedly made a good impression on the Blues’ board. Iraola’s plays with disciplined defense combined with quick attacking transitions. This has drawn admiration from several clubs. Chelsea see his methods as modern, adaptable, and capable of revitalizing their journey.
If results do not turn swiftly, the leadership at the West London club could act sooner rather than later. The idea of a head coach guiding a smaller team to unexpected success is strong. The Cherries’ boss has sharp tactical mind. This might fit the club’s evolving ambitions.
Author’s opinion:
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea project still has plenty of potential. But, time and patience are fading out for the Blues’ head coach. A managerial change seems more likely with every passing week.
