I mean, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse than blowing an 18-point lead with under six minutes left on the road in Week 7, the New York Giants went to Philadelphia in Week 8 and made things so much worse.
Someone please smack me in the face to wake me up from this nightmare. Please.
The G-Men got smoked 38-20 and looked terrible doing it. Making matters worse was losing rookie running back sensation Cam Skattebo for the season with a brutal ankle injury. And for anyone hoping Week 9 against the 5-3 San Francisco 49ers will bring any sort of good fortune Big Blue's way, think again.
The Niners are a formidable opponent and are looking to bounce back after a bad 26-15 loss to the Houston Texans. Exactly what the G-Men needed, a team looking for a get-right game before a divisional matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. But get-right game, meet trap game. And boy, could Big Blue use a win at home in Week 9. New York needs all the help and health it can get to hold up.
Giants’ initial Week 9 injury report...

Another week. Another lengthy injury list.
The first report paints a pretty clear picture: the defensive backs are hurting. It was nice to see Adebo and Holland back out there, after head coach Brian Daboll hilariously said they'd be "doing stuff" before practice even started. Adebo was seen stretching with the medical staff, while Holland got some work in on the field.
Flott's concussion likely isn't a long-term concern, but he's been one of the few bright spots on the defense not named Brian Burns or Abdul Carter.
To counter the mounting secondary concerns, the G-Men claimed former Cleveland Browns cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse off waivers and officially activated Rico Payton's 21-day practice window.
Payton, a former corner for the New Orleans Saints, was claimed back during roster cuts in late August.
San Fran quarterback Brock Purdy could be back under center in this one, after missing the past six games. The same goes for up-and-coming receiver Ricky Pearsall, only shedding more light on the potential exposing of the depleted secondary.
And taking a look at the rest of the report, Hyatt's wisdom teeth procedure was a funny footnote, and it comes at an interesting time. He was a healthy scratch in Week 8, all but confirming his time in East Rutherford is over.
Giants fans will have to wait and see how the rest of the injuries shake out the remainder of the week. The Nov. 4 trade deadline is under a week away, so maybe some better news will come in before kickoff on Sunday afternoon.
