Barcelona training update: Key duo complete group session but defender absent

FC Barcelona continued their preparations for the upcoming match against Elche at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper today.

Despite the setback of losing the team’s midfield linchpin, Pedri, to an injury, manager Hansi Flick is gradually recovering key players.

Lewandowski, Olmo complete group training

Indeed, in a major positive, Mundo Deportivo reports that Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo, both still awaiting medical clearance, trained normally with the group on Thursday.

Both Lewandowski and Olmo returned with injuries from the Poland and Spain national teams, respectively, during the international break earlier this month.

The key duo’s recovery has progressed very well, though, with Lewandowski rejoining team training at the start of the week and Olmo jumping in on Wednesday.

Now, both have completed a full session with the rest of the squad today and await medical clearance ahead of Sunday’s match vs Elche.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford and Frenkie de Jong, who missed Wednesday’s session with the club’s permission, also returned to full training.

Lamine Yamal also trained with the rest of the squad and, according to club sources, has been working at full intensity, despite there being some concerns about his pubalgia.

No Pau Cubarsi in group training

However, as per the report, Pau Cubarsi did not train with the rest of the group today and was the only player to carry out individual training in the gym.

The teenage defender was not in training on Wednesday either, albeit with the club’s permission, and today he worked alone inside the gym facilities.

But the good news is that Cubarsi is not suffering from any injury; his separate session was part of workload management, as he was not feeling completely fit. He is expected to rejoin the group on Friday without any issues.
