Daniel Farke was delighted to confirm that there are no injury or illness concerns ahead of Leeds United’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
There had been major question marks over Gabriel Gudmundsson’s availability after the Swede came off injured with a knock to the lower back region before half-time against West Ham United last Friday. However, Farke has confirmed the defender is available to take on the Seagulls on Saturday.
“Yes it was just a bruise, more or less like a dead leg,” he explained. “He couldn’t sprint anymore in the game but nothing major after two or three days. It has settled and he will be back to his full fitness and available.”
Another question mark hung over Wilfried Gnonto, amid his absence since September 13. The Italian has sustained a calf injury before requiring a minor operation on a hernia over the last international break.
However, he has now completed a full week’s training for the first time and - while he will not start - he could make the matchday squad for the first time in six weeks. Farke also gave a good report on how Daniel James is working his way back up to full fitness.
“He more or less had two injuries, he had eight or nine weeks when he wasn’t available,” Farke said of his start to the season, also noting how James ended last season with a hamstring injury. “It was tough for him.
“For the last two weeks, he's back in full team training. I like his attitude, he needs to work hard and he's doing this. He's sharp in training. He’s focused and concentrated, and does additional stuff.
“Physically, he's prepared for many minutes. In confidence, he is growing. I like what he does. When I unleash him, he has the chance to grab this chance with both hands and we will see when this moment will be.”
