LONDON – SABA: Liverpool crashed out of the English League Cup in the fourth round after a heavy 3–0 defeat at Anfield to Crystal Palace last night. Senegalese forward Ismaïla Sarr struck twice in the 41st and 45th minutes, sending Liverpool into halftime two goals down. The second half brought no change, with Liverpool looking completely unable to threaten the visitors’ goal. Their situation worsened in the final ten minutes when they were reduced to ten men after Amara Nallo was sent off in the 79th minute for denying a clear scoring chance to Northern Irish forward Justin Devine. In the 88th minute, Spanish winger Yeremy Pino added a third for Palace, sealing the club’s biggest-ever victory over Liverpool. Elsewhere, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle United joined Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals. Arsenal beat Brighton 2–0, Manchester City defeated Championship side Swansea City 3–1, Chelsea overcame Wolves 4–3, and Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2–0.
