Resurgent Aston Villa receive trio of Premier League award nominations

Emery’s men won all three league matches to climb into the top half of the table and continue their resurgence after a difficult start to the campaign.

Matty Cash, who this week has signed a new long-term contract at the club, has also been nominated for the player of the month award, while Emi Buendia’s winning goal at Tottenham has been nominated in the goal of the month category.

The Argentine playmaker curled home from outside the box to earn his team a 2-1 win in north London, with Cash and Lucas Digne also involved in a breathtaking move.

Cash scored the only goal as Villa beat Manchester City the following weekend to secure their fourth consecutive top flight win.

They have now won six of their last seven matches in all competitions, having failed to win any of their first six this season.

Emery is up against Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola for the manager of the month award.

The Spaniard has twice previously won the prize since joining Villa three years ago, with both coming in 2023.

Cash, who has never previously been nominated in the player of the month category, is up against Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes, Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi, Manchester United’s Bryan Mbuemo, Sunderland’s Nordi Mukiele, Brentford’s Igor Thiago and Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber.

The last Villa player to win the player of the month award was Christian Benteke in April, 2015.

Supporters can vote in all three award categories with the winners announced next week.
