The Washington Wizards announced Thursday the team has exercised the third-year rookie scale team option on Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George, Alex Sarr and AJ Johnson. The team also exercised the fourth-year rookie scale option on Bilal Coulibaly and Cam Whitmore.
Washington has prioritized building through the draft throughout its rebuild. Now, six members of its young core are locked in for next season.
Here is how each player’s salary looks next season under their rookie contracts:
Both Coulibaly, who makes his season debut tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Whitmore are rookie-extension eligible in October 2026.
Under Washington’s current salary cap sheet, Sarr ($12.37 million) will be the team’s second-highest paid player during the 2026-27 season, trailing only Corey Kispert’s $13.97 million. The second-year big man is averaging 19.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks on 55.2% FG through four games this season.
George, 21, scored a career-high 34 points in Washington’s win over Dallas last Friday. The 6-foot-9 forward is averaging 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds on 53.8% 3pt this season.
Carrington, 20, is averaging 8.0 points, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals as Washington’s starting point guard.
AJ Johnson, 20, has played just six minutes across two appearances this season. Washington acquired the shifty guard from the Milwaukee Bucks at last season’s trade deadline.
