Ty Simpson 2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Measurables:

Height- 6’2″

Weight- 208 lbs

Background:

Simpson attended Westview High School in Tennessee, where he was one of the highest-rated recruits in the class of 2022, as a five-star recruit and the fourth-ranked quarterback in the class, according to 247Sports. He committed to Alabama and appeared in the final minutes of four games in 2022. Simpson saw some time in 12 games over the next two seasons as Jalen Milroe’s backup in 2023 and 2024.He earned the starting job in 2025 and made his first start of his career in Week 1 against Florida State. In his first year as a full-time starter, Simpson has quickly become one of the most prolific passers in the country, ranking in the top 10 for both passing yards and passing touchdowns through the first nine weeks of the season.

Strengths:

What stands out about Simpson is how polished of a prospect he is for someone who is in just his first year as a full-time starter. He is in complete control of the Alabama offense and manages the game really well. He stays calm under pressure, and outside of his Week 1 game against Florida State, Simpson has consistently played well in big games, including tough road games against Georgia and Missouri. Simpson is aggressively attacking the middle of the field, and he throws the ball with great confidence while still taking good care of the football. He has just one interception through the first eight games of the season. Simpson is also a solid athlete who is really good at extending plays and throwing the ball on the run.

Weaknesses:

While Simpson looks like a veteran college quarterback, he does still lack playing experience as just a one-year starter. This is particularly significant considering he is one of the older potential top quarterback prospects as well, and has just one year of starting experience. Simpson also tends to hold on to the ball for too long and take unnecessary sacks.

NFL Projection:

Perhaps no player in college football has improved their draft stock as much as Simpson has so far this season. In just eight starts, he has put himself into first-round consideration, and with continued play at this level, there is a chance he could end up being the No. 1 overall pick if he declares for the 2026 NFL Draft. Despite not having much starting experience, Simpson looks like one of the most pro-ready quarterback prospects in college football. He doesn’t possess high-end physical traits that some other top quarterback prospects have, but he still has solid athleticism and good arm strength. With his confidence as a passer and poise under pressure, along with his mental makeup, accuracy, and anticipation, Simpson has the skill set to potentially be a very good starting quarterback in the NFL.
