There isn't much to complain about so far this season. Just about everything is going right, except their turnovers. That's a big problem that could come back to bite them in a larger way against stronger competition than they've faced four games into the year. However, they already have help on the way [in the form of De'Aaron Fox.](https://airalamo.com/zach-lowe-says-quiet-part-out-loud-about-deaaron-foxs-spot-spurs)
San Antonio is tied with four teams for 24th in turnovers, and even worse, they're 26th in opponent points off turnovers. This alone should quiet the calls for the Spurs to trade Fox. This is still a young team, and Stephon Castle is growing into a playmaker. He'll be better suited to playing off the ball as a secondary initiator.
Castle goes up another level with Fox back
------------------------------------------
The former UConn dynamo has been playing great basketball. The only things holding him back are his turnovers and his three-point shooting. But the outside shot isn't that much of a problem right now because his overall efficiency is high, so really it's just the turnovers. He's leading the league with 6.3 per game.
Swipa has only averaged 2.3 turnovers throughout his career, and San Antonio needs that before they get into the more difficult part of their schedule. That's not that far away. The Miami Heat will be their first real test, but they'll have to do it without their speedy point guard. The expectation was that he would return in the first week of November, and we haven't heard any news to the contrary.
When he returns, Castle can catch the ball and react to an already compromised defense based on what his floor general and the Alien are doing to it. If they're already rotating, he can use his explosive first step to his advantage, keeping them off balance when he makes a play. But you don't get ranked 24th in turnovers because of one player.
The entire team has been guilty of getting sloppy with the ball. The history of Fox's career tells us that he takes care of the rock. Getting shots at the basket is important, as it allows you to set your defense, even if you miss the shot. The Spurs have one of the best defenses in the league, so forcing teams to score on it in the half-court must be a crucial part of every game's strategy.
What's crazy about all of this is that despite being so bad with taking care of the rock, the Spurs have the best point differential in the league. They're a +16.5. That's a hint, telling us how much better this team could be if they clean up a few areas. [That's where D. Fox comes in.](https://airalamo.com/spurs-smash-every-expectation-they-pull-off-impossible-without-fox)
