Jason Wilcox urges Man Utd stars not to get carried away, 'we are seeing...'

Jason Wilcox has warned Manchester United players not to get carried away by recent results because consistency is required to compete for Champions League qualification and the Premier League title.

There has been an upturn in results at Manchester United after a slow start to the 2025/26 season.

United beat Brighton 4-2 to make it three consecutive wins in the Premier League, with the Red Devils embarking on their best run since Ruben Amorim arrived at the club 11 months ago.

The reports improved after Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave Amorim his public backing. The United head coach was under intense pressure from the media amid doubts over the direction the team was heading in.

That has changed because United are winning football matches again. Amorim is hoping to make it four wins on the bounce when they travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Jason Wilcox warns Man Utd stars not to get carried away

The only way United can prove that October has been a turning point in their season is by winning more football matches.

Consistency is key if Amorim is to get United back competing in the Champions League because the midweeks are long – this season — without European matches.

Amorim will hope to build on wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton to gain more momentum and stop the rot that was developing earlier in the campaign.

Wilcox doesn’t want the United players to get ahead of themselves, though. There is still a lot of work to do if United want to push for a top-five finish and secure Champions League football for next season. That seemed like an unlikely task for this United side five weeks ago.

Speaking to ManUtd.com, Wilcox revealed that the mood hasn’t changed at Carrington. Everyone remains focused on progressing and developing as a team.

The football director also singled out United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford as the game that disappointed him most so far this season.

“The mood has not changed to be honest,” Wilcox said.

“When you lose football matches, of course we are disappointed. I think the Brentford game stands out as a game when we were extremely disappointed in the way we played, but in all the other games I think we have had moments of really good play and we are seeing progress.

“We have just got to keep this going now. Not get too carried away when we win and not get too disappointed when we lose. We know we are making progress. It will be another tough game at the weekend.

“Ruben and the guys will be fully prepared, we know what we are going to get at Nottingham Forest, a new manager, they have got a good playing squad, we saw that last year, and it is going to be a really difficult game for us.”

What did Jason Wilcox say about Man Utd’s new signings?

Wilcox is happy with how the new signings are settling into their new surroundings at Old Trafford.

He notes that Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have benefited from arriving with Premier League experience, but he is also satisfied with how Senne Lammens and Benjamin Sesko have transitioned.

Wilcox added: “Yeah the guys have settled in really, really quickly. I think especially when you look at Matheus and Bryan, they have played in the Premier League and they have lived in England, so there is a quicker transition. I think for Benji and Senne, you look at their transition and they have transitioned really well. We are really pleased. They are two young players, two for the future, but they have settled in amazingly well.

“They are all good guys, even from last summer’s window, they are top professionals, top players and we are really optimistic we are going in the right direction. We have a clear plan. I am sure there are going to be bumps in the road but we have just got to make sure we stay calm irrespective of the noise outside. I see the intensity, I am at training every day, I see the way that they train, the way they apply themselves, the way they communicate and get on with each other.

“Like I say, when you lose football matches you are always going to be a little bit disappointed and especially at this club.”
