National Football League makes Seahawks' Jaxon Smith-Njigba announcement

The Seattle Seahawks are 5-2, sitting tied atop the NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams, and looking like one of the best teams in the NFL. As long as the defense and special teams continue to play up to their potential, the offense is the only thing that needs to improve.

While there is room for improvement on offense, it's specifically surrounding the running game. The passing offense has been incredible, and specifically, the offense that's gone through Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Ahead of Week 9, the National Football League announced the Players of the Month for October. After his remarkable start to the year, Smith-Njigba earned the honor as the NFC Offensive Player of the Month.

NFL announces Jaxon Smith-Njigba as NFC Offensive Player of the Month

The Seahawks had a Week 8 bye in October, leaving Smith-Njigba with just three games of statistics to work with for this award. But his production in those three games is too much for the NFL to ignore.

In October, Smith-Njigba had 24 receptions for 417 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Every game, he had at least eight catches, 100 yards, and a touchdown, regardless of opponent.

When it comes to the Seahawks' opponents, there wasn't any cake-walk matchup. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers game was a loss in a thriller, 38-35, but Smith-Njigba hauled in eight of his nine targets for 132 yards and a touchdown.

In Week 6, Smith-Njigba elevated the Seahawks to a 20-12 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team with one of the better defenses in the league. The NFC Offensive Player of the Month hauled in eight of his 13 targets for 162 yards and a touchdown.

Lastly, for his third and final October performance, Smith-Njigba put up incredible numbers against the Houston Texans, arguably the best defense in the NFL. He caught eight of 14 targets for 123 yards and a touchdown.

His strong October could've been even more ridiculous if the Seahawks weren't on bye, but even with the bye, his October was amazing.

On the season, Smith-Njigba has 50 receptions for 819 yards and four touchdowns. He leads the receiving yards, having 99 more yards than Ja'Marr Chase in one fewer week and on 30 fewer targets. Chase had 99 through eight weeks, while Smith-Njigba has 69.

The Seahawks' leading receiver has been in the middle of a huge breakout season, and the 23-year-old is likely heading towards a future of plenty of accolades and awards beyond his October Player of the Month honor.
