'Goals galore': Steve Sidwell makes strange Leeds claim when predicting result v Brighton

Brighton away is a daunting fixture for Leeds United as Daniel Farke takes his side to the south coast this weekend to take on Fabian Hurzeler’s impressive side.

Leeds do not have a good record at Brighton, last scoring an away goal against The Seagulls back in 2012. However, Leeds will be feeling a lot more confident after beating West Ham at home last time out.

Brighton, meanwhile, come into the game off the back of two successive defeats. However, they have come against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the League, and Arsenal away in the Carabao Cup.

Brighton gave a good account of themselves in both matches and will now look to get back to winning ways on Saturday. Fabian Hurzeler says it is a “nice thing” that Brighton face Leeds come Saturday.

Steve Sidwell makes strange Leeds claim when predicting result

Brighton have scored 14 goals and conceded 15 in their nine games, while Leeds have scored nine and conceded 14. The stats suggest there will be goals on Saturday, even if Leeds play on the counter attack.

On the Peter Crouch podcast, Steve Sidwell provided his prediction, and he believes Brighton will secure a 2-0 win. However, Sidwell suggested Leeds only know one way to play, and that benefits The Seagulls.

“These games suit Brighton, Leeds only know one way to play and that’s to play on the front foot and get at teams. This could be goals galore this one. I’m going to go Brighton 2-0. Dog it out,” Sidwell said.

Daniel Farke has proven Sidwell claim is just plain wrong

If any footballing fan has watched Leeds over the last three years under Farke, they will understand the remarkable difference in the way Leeds have played this season, compared to the first two seasons.

In the first season, Leeds relied on pace and their individual quality. The second season saw Leeds express more control, dominating possession and keeping the ball as their best form of defence, under Farke.

This season, Leeds have become much uglier, opting to bring in physical players and believing that is the best way of keeping teams at bay at a higher level. Farke has even changed his system, 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3.

So, Sidwell clearly has not watched Leeds in depth and certainly, has not been paying attention this term. But his prediction makes much more sense – Saturday is going to be a difficult test for Farke’s side.
