Albion keeper says young stars can learn from World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister

The experienced goalkeeper has been impressed by the mentality of youngsters such as Stefanos Tzimas and Charalampos Kostoulas who have been brought into the club.

Both were off target with chances in Wednesday’s wasteful 2-0 defeat at Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

But they are making progress as they adapt to their new surroundings.

Steele, part of the squad’s leadership group, keeps a close eye on fellow players and reminds them World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister and current Chelsea star Moises Caicedo both took time to settle.

He told The Argus: “If we're looking in the past, it took Alexis a year. It took Moises even more than that, and we've got to be patient.

“At the same time, we have to keep demanding of them, keep making them aware of what's demanded of them every day and that's all we can do.

“You have to remember that this is totally alien to a lot of the young players and we have to stay patient, we have to keep supporting them, helping them and guiding them on the journey.

“Their mentality and temperament are top, top levels, so that's fantastic for them.

“It's a game of football, anything can happen. If you bring context into it, it's an amazing experience for them to come here (to the Emirates). to play well.

“We had chances, we played with lots of bravery. had big, big moments. When you come up against the team that are this good, they will punish you if you don't take your chances.”

Steele believes there is more to come from Albion after an up-and-down first few weeks of the season.

He said: “We've got a massively talented group of players and I think we've just got to keep demanding consistency.

“I think you can see in the first half (at Arsenal) the way we played, we can hurt anybody.

“It just means being consistent every game, every moment in every game. keep doing the basics right, keep working hard. That's all we can control.”
