Sarah Brasero was on the scoresheet with an assist as England's Under 23s battled to a 1-1 draw with Portugal in the WU23 European competition, securing their first point of the campaign.

The match, held at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton, saw the visitors take an early advantage with a powerful strike into the top corner after just eight minutes. Despite the setback, the Young Lionesses grew into the game and found their rhythm after the break.

Eleven minutes into the second half, Brasero, who played the full 90 minutes, created England’s equaliser. Collecting the ball on the edge of the area, the West Ham midfielder turned sharply before threading a clever pass into Keira Barry, who calmly slotted home to level the score.

Emma Coates’ side came close to snatching all three points late on, when Olivia McLoughlin’s volley rattled the crossbar in the dying moments.

The Young Lionesses will continue their European campaign next month when they host Norway U23s during the November international window.
