Manchester United are currently limited to one match per week after the Red Devils failed to secure European football in the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils also crashed out of the Carabao Cup after Grimsby Town inflicted a humiliating defeat on United in the second-round tie at Blundell Park in August.

However, United will see additional fixtures added to their schedule in 2026 with their involvement in the FA Cup competition when the third round kicks off.

The Germany international has impressed during his spell with VfB Stuttgart, having moved to the Bundesliga outfit in 2023 following his exit from TSG Hoffenheim.

United were linked with several midfielders in the summer, but the Red Devils did not bring in a new signing before the transfer window closed on 1st September.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed United’s interest in Angelo Stiller, but the Red Devils face no easy task in trying to sign the former Bayern Munich midfielder.

Speaking in a piece for GiveMeSport, he cited a “source” who suggested that Stuttgart could derail United and Madrid’s interest in the Germany midfielder.

According to Romano, Stuttgart have the ability to “buy out the release clause” in Stiller’s existing deal before the Red Devils try to land the player in January.

United-linked Angelo Stiller is under contract with Stuttgart until 2028 and his release clause is set for “as little as” £1.7m when it comes to the buyout option.

That is according to Romano, who added that the Bundesliga club are “expected” to trigger the option in the Germany international’s contract.

He added that if Stuttgart exercise the buyout option, then United could find “negotiations” taking place for a transfer fee of £44m or £53m for the player.

Romano has suggested that it now seems “very difficult” for United to make an approach in January if that were the case and could wait until the summer instead.
