Newcastle United will keep hold of £15m star in January despite almost leaving in summer

· 30 October 2025, 18:30

On transfer deadline day this summer, Newcastle United almost lost Will Osula to Eintracht Frankfurt before the rug was pulled on the deal with moments to spare.

The nature of the deal had shifted from a loan to a purchase, which Newcastle felt didn't reflect their valuation of Osula and opted to keep the Danish Under 21 striker on Tyneside.

As fate would have it, this would end up being a good move, as days later, Yoane Wissa picked up an injury that has kept him out of every game so far.

Not to mention how well Osula has played when called upon this season, especially in light of the fact that he's carrying an ankle injury.

Will Osula is staying put in January

Newcastle are keeping Will Osula at the club beyond January

Craig Hope has now reported in his Newcastle Confidential column in the Daily Mail that Newcastle will keep hold of Osula in January even if any bids come in.

It's believed that even if another club matches Newcastle's £30 million valuation, which is double the £15 million they paid for him last summer, they wouldn't be able to find a better player for the same price, and it would therefore be a pointless deal to do.

Staff at the club, including Eddie Howe, have been impressed with Osula's development this season, and already the 22-year-old is being handed more opportunities than he was last season.

We see a big future for Will Osula

Many had expected Osula to start last night when Newcastle took on Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, but Nick Woltemade was given the nod instead, which proved to be the right move as the big German headed Newcastle's second goal of the game.

Osula did replace Woltemade late on, so he did get to play a part in the proceedings at least.

We're happy that Newcastle are keeping hold of the promising young talent. He seems to be growing with every appearance and with the raw skills and blistering pace at his disposal, we can definitely see a big future for the young Dane.
