To kick off what has been a magical 2025 season for the Indianapolis Colts, the team beat up on a Miami Dolphins team that has become one of the very worst in the league. The two organizations have had polar opposite seasons, and they're both headed in polar opposite directions.
While the Colts are riding high with [the best record in the entire league](https://horseshoeheroes.com/indianapolis-colts-shock-nfl-no-one-saw-week-8-moment-coming), the Miami Dolphins are fighting with abysmal teams like the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans for the rights to the number one overall pick. Though Miami has become renowned for how dysfunctional an organization it is, even the most casual fan can see that this team should be headed for a rebuild.
Enter veteran pass rusher Bradley Chubb, who had been among the premier players in the league at getting the quarterback on the ground before a torn ACL at the end of 2023 saw him miss the entirety of 2024.
Since then, Chubb's stats haven't popped as much as they did before his injury, but with how terrible Miami's defense has been, it has to be brought into question how much of that is really his fault.
A Bradley Chubb trade could bring the Indianapolis Colts to the brink of true Super Bowl contention
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's no secret that Indianapolis is already a contender for the Super Bowl. After all, a team doesn't just walk into the best record in the league and one of the most efficient offenses of the 21st century by accident. This is a truly phenomenal football team. However, this team is not without weakness, and they do have an Achilles heel.
That [Achilles heel is their defense](https://horseshoeheroes.com/indianapolis-colts-win-week-7-defense-looks-like-problem). Newly hired defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has lived up to his nickname of being a mad scientist thus far into his Colts tenure (one has to look no further than seeing WR Ashton Dulin blitz the quarterback to see that), but the results this defense has yielded have been troubling to say the least.
Indy has only held its opponents to less than 20 points twice this season. Not to mention, the two performances that they accomplished that mark were games against the Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders, two of the most putrid offenses in the league. In short, this defense needs improvement if the Colts truly want to say that they're all in on 2025 (and they should be).
Chubb is arguably the perfect trade candidate for Indy. He's on an expiring contract, he's recently returned from a major injury, and the Miami Dolphins should be desperate to get something in return for him before they're forced to let him go for nothing. In short, it's the perfect storm to get a player with game-wrecking potential for pennies on the dollar.
Trading for Chubb doesn't come without risk. Though he's flashed in 2025, he's been known to be injury-prone, and he's not guaranteed to be the elite player he was for much longer. Still, the upside is there, and it is tantalizing to say the least. GM Chris Ballard could be bringing in an elite talent for relatively cheap.
This move would be a swing for the fences, but that's exactly what good teams should try for when they truly have a Super Bowl window open. Those windows don't last long, so the team should be doing everything in their power to capitalize on the elite roster that has been built up, and they should be doing it right now.
