Superstar Rutter says 'it will be great' to play his old club Leeds

But [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/?ref=au) will be pleased if his emotion is one of goalscoring delight when he faces his old club.

The Seagulls have had ten different goalscorers in the Premier League so far this season but Rutter is not one of them.

He was a popular player at Elland Road before leaving early last term to join the Seagulls.

But, after an exciting debut season was cut short by injury, he has not hit heights on a sustained basis as yet this term.

There were promising signs in the midweek Carabao Cup defeat at Arsenal.

But he left the Emirates looking disappointed and tired after a frustrating night.

Now comes the visit of his old club and he will not quite know what to expect from their fans.

Rutter told The Argus: “I have no idea but I understand in football when some fans are angry because you leave the team.

“I understand a bit but it’s football.

“I know I was loving Leeds, I was loving my team-mates.

“When I said ‘bye bye’ to them I was very emotional because it was a very hard decision.

“Now I have to play against them.

“It’s football. It’s why we play football a bit as well.

“It will be great and we will see what happens.”

Rutter loves his horse racing and Leeds boss Daniel Farke used an equine analogy as he spoke about his former player.

Farke said: “I think there were one or two unlucky injuries, but overall I think he’s progressed really well.

“It was a joy to work with him, because he was not just full of quality and potential, but he was like a young horse. He was wired and full of energy, and always wanted to play.

“He’s an important player for them, and I think there’s more to come, but he’s developing into a superstar at this level.”

Rutter maybe should have scored at the Emirates when a slightly heavy touch just narrowed the angle a little too much and helped Kepa Arrizabalaga made a block.

He later produced some good set-up play for Stefanos Tzimas on a couple of occasions.

Rutter believes his best role is "half-nine" and that may well have been what he was playing at Arsenal.

He has a racehorse named Brighlee – a combination of Brighton and Leeds – and still has a lot of affection for the Elland Road outfit.

Speaking ahead of the season, he said: “I think I am going to be like supporting Leeds for a long time because my friends play there.

“All of them, even the manager, the staff, they helped me a lot.

“When I came it was not good

“The season after was very good, the fans were amazing, So it will be a bit strange.”
