'We felt that': Eddie Howe pleased as PIF spending pays off at Newcastle

PIF and Eddie Howe appear to be on the same page about Newcastle United’s work in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United endured a dramatic transfer window, and one dominated by the Alexander Isak saga.

Isak eventually left despite PIF stressing they wouldn’t sell, while Newcastle missed out on several key transfer targets.

Still, the Newcastle United owners backed Howe. Though much of it was offset by Isak’s sale, Newcastle spent around £240million in the summer of 2025. While it certainly wasn’t an easy few months for supporters, the club appear to have emerged from that transfer window in a much better place.

Behind the scenes, PIF have privately suggested that they are proud of Newcastle’s summer signings and Howe is delighted with the new strength of his squad.

Eddie Howe delighted with Newcastle United squad depth

The Newcastle United manager was speaking after Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win over Tottenham.

Howe made eight changes to the team who beat Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday and still found a way through big-name opposition.

Indeed, Newcastle’s summer signings give Howe the kind of strength and depth he’s been without for much of his tenure at the club.

Asked about the depth in his squad, Howe told ITV: “We felt that in the summer. We felt that we’d come out of the transfer window with a really strong squad with possibilities in most positions.

“I think today was a good showcase of that. We made a lot of changes, but the rhythm of the team was the same with some good individual performances.”

Newcastle United squad will only get better from here

It’s exciting to imagine a Newcastle United squad already packed with talent improving going forward.

Players will come and go but the ambition remains the same on Tyneside. They’ve surely already been through the worst of it with Isak, even if some of the players eventually follow him out of the door.

The signings of Malick Thiaw, Aaron Ramsdale and Jacob Ramsey have bolstered Howe’s options. When Yoane Wissa returns from injury, star man Nick Woltemade will finally have some Premier League-proven cover.

Excitingly, selling Isak has massively improved Newcastle’s PSR position, so further top-level additions could be on the way to the club over the next few transfer windows too.
