Manchester United 4-2 Brighton: View from the pressbox
West Ham are reportedly keen to sign one of Man United’s players in the January transfer window.
Man United will be heading into the January transfer window with a lot of optimism. They have won their last three league games, with the most recent being a 4-2 win against Brighton at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim will be keen to bring more players in this winter, with the holding midfield role a constant talking point. However, as Man United spent over £170m in the summer transfer window, they may need to consider a few player sales before they can invest in new players.
West Ham have been linked to signing one of United’s players, with the Hammers currently trying to battle against relegation under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who will be desperate to bring proven Premier League players in during the January transfer window.
Zirkzee considering move to Serie A over West Ham
Man United striker Joshua Zirkzee could leave during the January transfer window, as the Dutchman wants more regular game time to give him a chance to make the Netherlands World Cup squad in the summer.
According to Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Zirkzee is considering returning to Italy, but instead of moving back to Bologna, he could be joining Roma instead. It is understood that the Italian club would like to sign Zirkzee on a loan with a potential permanent transfer in the summer, depending on his performances.
Previously, Zirkzee has shown he can perform in the Serie A. During his time at Bologna, he scored 14 goals in 58 games and became both a threat in scoring goals and helped to elevate his teammates. Since coming to United, the Dutch striker has scored just seven goals in 54 appearances, not hitting the same levels.
Who else could Man United sell in January?
Alongside Zirkzee, two other names could potentially leave Man United in the January window. The first one is Tyrell Malacia, who was on the list to leave in the summer; however, he wasn’t able to find a suitable destination. Malacia is back in United’s first team, but is yet to feature this season.
There has been no reported recent interest in the left-back; however, he could see a move in the January window, even if it is just a loan move to help get him more regular minutes during the second half of the season.
Kobbie Mainoo also wants a move away in January, as he would like a loan to get more game time. Amorim seems consistently reluctant to play Mainoo on a regular basis despite his sky-high potential that he’s shown for United in the past. It is understood that United don’t want to let Mainoo leave; however, this means an exit could only be likely if United bring in an adequate replacement for the 20-year-old.
