Baylor Scheierman is part of the Celtics’ plans for the 2026-27 season.
Boston will pick up the $2.74 million third-year option in the 2024 first-round draft pick’s contract, according to multiple reports Thursday. HoopsHype.com’s Michael Scotto was the first to report the transaction.
Scheierman has seen action in four of the Celtics’ first five games this season after making several late-season cameos as a rookie. The 6-foot-6 wing has scored just three points thus far, but head coach Joe Mazzulla praised his defense after Wednesday night’s 125-95 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I thought even Baylor’s five or six possessions on Donovan Mitchell, he executed the game plan,” Mazzulla said when asked about contributions from Boston’s depth players. “So just getting 11, 12 guys that can play the way we need to play on both ends of the floor, we’ll continue to grow as a team. It’s a credit to them doing that, and we’ve just got to get better at it.”
Scheierman, who played 10 minutes against Cleveland, also tallied six rebounds in Monday night’s victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. He ranks fifth among Celtics wings in minutes played this season (34), trailing Jaylen Brown, Sam Hauser, Josh Minott and Hugo Gonzalez.
With Scheierman’s option picked up, the Celtics now have eight players under contract for next season, plus team options for Minott, Neemias Queta and Jordan Walsh.
Boston will visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night in its first 2025 NBA Cup game.
