After putting together his career-best performance in the Buffalo Bills‘ opening game against the Baltimore Ravens, many expected big things for second-year wideout Keon Coleman in 2025. Unfortunately, Coleman has since failed to show much promise, which led to legendary NFL wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. sharing a warning about the Florida State product.
Since Week 1, Coleman has eclipsed 30 receiving yards in a game just once, which has led to the speculation that the Bills may be looking to bring in a true No. 1 wide receiver ahead of the NFL trade deadline next week.
On Sunday, Coleman and the Bills will be going up against a Chiefs defense that is firing on all cylinders, allowing just seven combined points over the past two games.
This obviously doesn’t bode well for Coleman. As a result, Steve Smith Sr. shared a brutally honest assessment of who he believes Coleman is as a player during the most recent episode of his podcast.
“He ain’t the guy,” Smith said of Coleman. “Can’t get separation. Can’t get off the jam. Doesn’t have it. You can’t teach a dog how to bark. You either got it or you don’t.”
Coleman is just 22 years of age. So there is still plenty of hope that he can ultimately turn things around and produce at a level capable of being a No. 1 wide receiver in Buffalo in the future.
However, if the Bills want to truly contend for a Super Bowl this season, getting a proven commodity at wide receiver may be necessary.
Unless the Bills make a trade ahead of Sunday’s game, Coleman will seemingly get one more chance to prove that he is capable of being the top wideout in Buffalo. So it would certainly be interesting to see whether he can put together a productive outing to push back against some of the criticism that has been thrown his way.
