Deeney names Premier League unsung heroes and tips Semenyo for Real Madrid transfer

Antoine Semenyo's impressive displays could earn him a move to Real Madrid - but only if he does one thing.

That's according to Troy Deeney, who has hailed the Bournemouth star as one of the Premier League's unsung heroes after a blistering start to the season.

The Ghana international has been in outstanding form this term, with only Erling Haaland scoring more than him.

Semenyo currently boasts nine goal involvements in as many league games - six goals and three assists.

His exploits have been key to the Cherries' fine start to the campaign, who currently sit second in the league table, four points adrift of leaders Arsenal and three ahead of champions Liverpool.

Most impressive is how Semenyo has stepped up following a number of high-profile exits at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth sold £200million worth of players in the summer - including Milos Kerkez to Liverpool, and centre-back Dean Huijsen, who joined Real Madrid in a £50m deal.

And Watford legend Deeney has tipped Semenyo to become the next Cherries star to earn a blockbuster move to the Spanish giants - if he sustains his stellar form.

Deeney's challenge to Semenyo

Speaking to talkSPORT.com, the former striker was asked who, in his opinion, have been the Premier League's unsung heroes this season.

Semenyo's name was understandably floated around, to which Deeney said: “I just don't know if Semenyo can keep it up - do you know what I mean?

“If he does, then my God - he'll probably end up playing for Real Madrid.

“But I think he's very good, very powerful, very direct. I just don't know whether he'll keep it up."

When pressed on whether the forward was among the league's standout performers, Deeney agreed: “Yeah - he's a good shout, Semenyo.”

And while the talkSPORT host admitted a big move is subject to the Ghana international continuing to deliver, he has already attracted plenty of interest.

Semenyo heldtalks with Tottenham and Manchester Unitedin the summer before opting to sign a new deal until 2030.

But any suitors will be alert to a release clause in his Bournemouth contract, as revealed by talkSPORT's chief football correspondent, Alex Crook earlier in October.

The exact terms of this are being kept under wraps as Andoni Iraola's side want to retain their star man for as long as possible.

Who else has caught Deeney's eye?

It isn't just Semenyo who Deeney feels has flown under the radar this season, with Brighton star Danny Welbeck also earning praise.

At 34, the ex-Manchester United striker has continued to show his class, netting five goals in nine league games so far.

His exploits place him two ahead of Arsenal's £63.7m signing Viktor Gyokeres in the goalscoring charts, who has netted three times so far.

Deeney has used Welbeck's form to highlight the Gunners man's underwhelming start to the campaign, as he compared the two forwards' fortunes.

He said of Gyokeres: “He hasn't scored more Premier League goals than Danny Welbeck.

"But we should be talking about him like he scored as many as Haaland. Why? And if you don't give him that level of credit, you're a hater.

“But if you pull out the pure facts of like, Welbz has scored more Premier League goals than him: ‘No, don't talk about that. Don't talk about that. Because he scored two in the Champions League.'

“So Jesus Christ, we can't win either way. So just leave him to it.”

Assessing the league's underappreciated stars, Deeney clarified: "Welbeck has to be [among them], doesn't he?"

'The real deal'

Among the other names to impress the former Watford captain were Newcastle's record summer signing Nick Woltemade, and Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Woltemade has seamlessly stepped up to fill Alexander Isak's shoes on Tyneside, bagging four goals in six league games.

Meanwhile Caicedo earned a special mention from Deeney, who has netted three goals from midfield this term, to boost his impressive all-round game.

Naming his other star performers, he said: “Woltemade as well at Newcastle - I think he's frightening.

“Caicedo’s started to get some more love and attention.

“I wasn't his biggest fan. I thought he was good, but now he's added goals, it's like: ‘Oh God, he's the real deal’."
