Packers’ Matt LaFleur reveals ‘very annoying’ part of offense he can’t seem to fix

The Packers are coming off one of the most complete offensive efforts of the season, but head coach Matt LaFleur isn’t satisfied.

Even though Green Bay ran past the Steelers, 35-25, quarterback Jordan Love passed for a season-high 360 yards, and Tucker Kraft sliced and diced his way to 143 yards and two touchdowns as a driving force behind the Packers’ victory, LaFleur still believes there is much to clean up ahead of Week 9.

Green Bay has gone through a spell where the offense has struggled to put teams away, and gone through lulls in the middle of games, Sunday night’s victory notwithstanding.

The lack of sustained drives hasn’t sat well with LaFleur, who seems to be seeking perfection.

“It’s very annoying,” LaFleur told reporters, of how a play-caller feels when a drive never gets going. “It’s frustrating when you know there’s opportunities there and you don’t convert.

In reality, Love and the Packers’ offense has only committed three turnovers thus far season and are converting 48.3 percent of third-down opportunities.

Still, a perceived inability to create sustained drives, puts added strain on a defense that is already facing issues with lackluster play in the secondary.

For LaFleur, it could simply come down to Love taking what the defense is giving and moving the chains rather than focusing on explosive chunk plays, in favor of longer drives to both dictate to the opponent and keep the Packers’ defense fresh.

“If teams are going to play us in soft shell, we’ve got to be content in taking,” LaFLeur said. “Whether it’s a check down or a quick game, and just being very disciplined in taking those throws.”
