Broncos without three players at Thursday’s practice

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Broncos players Marvin Mims Jr., Pat Surtain II and Nate Adkins remained sidelined as the team went through its practice paces Thursday in advance of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

Surtain and Adkins being out of action came as no surprise. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year suffered a left pectoral-muscle strain last Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys and has a recovery time that is expected to take weeks, although it is possible that the fifth-year cornerback may be able to avoid a stint on the injured-reserve list.

If the Broncos place Surtain on injured reserve, he would miss all of November and would be ineligible to return until the team’s Week 14 game at Las Vegas.

Adkins suffered a non-contact knee injury during the fourth quarter last Sunday.

Mims is in the league-mandated concussion protocol after leaving Sunday’s game late in the fourth quarter. He’s averaging 27.8 yards per kickoff return, which ranks seventh among 39 players with at least 10 opportunities this season.
