The NBA regular season started last week. Most teams have played four or five games by now, and identities are beginning to form. Before the year, the Bulls were predicted to land in the top-ten of the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery odds, only win 32-33 games in the regular season, and miss the postseason for a fourth consecutive season. After starting the year by upsetting two reigning Eastern Conference playoff teams, heads began to turn in NBA circles. While many remain skeptical of Chicago’s chances to contend, none can deny that they’ve done the improbable thus far. Here’s the buzz surrounding the NBA’s current Cinderella story.
The Most Improbable Undefeated Team
Of the four remaining clubs without a loss, the Bulls are by far the least likely to have gotten to this point. The Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, and Philadelphia 76ers are all genuine NBA title contenders. In contrast, the Bulls were closer to landing the first overall draft selection than they were to making the playoffs. Some of the biggest names in the game are starting to notice the underdog story unfold.

The buzz in Chicago had been slowly dying over the last decade, as fans came to realize that Zach LaVine was not carrying this franchise to the promised land, and the front office refused to move on. Add in a busted top-five draft pick in Patrick Williams, and no superstar acquisitions in the meantime, the city has been yearning for something to spark hope. Against all odds, Josh Giddey, Nikola Vucevic, Matas Buzelis, and the collection of youngsters have done just that.
Lou Will Backs The Bulls
Former 3x NBA Sixth Man of the Year award winner Lou Williams has been one of the only top-level analysts who have consistently backed this version of the Chicago Bulls. Despite a young and inexperienced roster, their formula for winning games aligns with the current state of basketball. They’re atop the league in pace, assists, defending the perimeter, and free-throw efficiency. With 11 players aged 25 or younger, they’ll have plenty of time to build as a unit.
