Daniel Farke has heaped praise on former Leeds United player Georginio Rutter ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion, adding that he believes he has not yet reached his full potential as a ‘superstar’.
Rutter, yet to score in nine games this season, will face the Whites for the first time since leaving Elland Road last year. The 23-year-old played 53 games under Farke before Brighton sanctioned a club record purchase by triggering his £40million release clause.
The Leeds boss was asked about Rutter’s time at Leeds and his assessment of how the 23-year-old is faring at Brighton since his switch. “I think he has progressed really well,” Farke said.
“It was a joy when we had him to work with him because he was not just full of quality and full of potential. I know he's a bit into horses and he was like a young horse, he was wild and full of energy and just wanted to play.
“It was a joy to work with him because he always wanted to improve and to progress. This is what he has done. I think he's an important player for them. He's not the finished end product yet, I think there's even more to come.
“But he's still developing into a superstar on this level. It was really a pleasure and great to work with him.”
Farke added: "I don't want to praise him too much - we want to handle him and make sure that he won't shine too much [on Saturday]! But take this game to the side, it's always a joy to see Georgie.
“Not just because of his quality, but also especially because of the human being that he is. I'm also looking forward to giving him a big hug - but just after the game.”
