Pedro Porro acknowledges travelling Tottenham supporters at St James’ Park after Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United
Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-0 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday night in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, ending Thomas Frank’s hopes of a quadruple.
It was a frustrating night for Spurs, who did not test Newcastle United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale much. Tottenham’s second choice goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky had a poor outing and harmed his chances of playing further. There were several underperformers in a Spurs shirt, as the Magpies cruised to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals through goals from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade.
Thomas Frank was left frustrated with the match officials for not allowing Djed Spence to return to his position after the full-back was done tying up his boot’s laces. His absence in the box proved costly as Schar headed the ball past Kinsky from a Sandro Tonali cross. The Tottenham gaffer felt his team’s performance was good at St James’ Park and only “small margins” eventually decided the outcome of the game.

Tottenham take on Chelsea at home on Saturday
Pedro Porro stared the game against Newcastle and played the full 90 minutes. In the aftermath to the defeat in Tyneside, the right-back made sure to acknowledge the travelling fans and thanked them for supporting them, despite Spurs being eliminated from the Carabao Cup. He admitted the defeat as “disappointing” but loved the mentality of the team for fighting until the end.
“The first point is disappointment. For us, for all the fans who came today, I think for me and the whole team, we say thank you so much for the support today,” Pedro Porro said.
“It’s a bad result for them and us, but I loved the mentality of the team because we conceded a goal from a set piece, and this happens in football, but we stayed in the game. But the best from today was our fans, thank you so much, and keep coming on Saturday.”
Big test awaits vs Chelsea
Frank and Co. must quickly dust themselves down from the disappointing cup defeat at Newcastle and prepare themselves for the mouthwatering London derby against Chelsea. Spurs’ home form has been a big concern, having won just one league outing from four this season thus far. So, this will be a great opportunity for the boys to improve the home record and get back to winning ways.
Chelsea, on the other hand, escaped a mighty scare by winning just 4-3 against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup fourth round. The Blues’ form has been up and down of late, providing Tottenham with a glorious opportunity to get one over our bitter London rivals and continuing our momentum in the Premier League.
It will be intriguing to see Frank’s team selection against Chelsea on Saturday.
