Ed’s Note [Gav]: The fact that the ceiling is unknown is really exciting, I think. I don’t think anyone has a clue where we are headed, only that it is up… both short term and long term, the future is very exciting. The team we’ve assembled is getting better and better and it feels like a number of clubs have decided to have a poor start to life in the Premier League, which only helps us to dream big. I don’t see any way that this team struggles this season, and I think if you spoke to the players they’d be talking about finishing as high as possible, with asperations to take Sunderland into Europe. That might seem like pure fantasy, but with players like Granit Xhaka running the show, would you honestly rule it out? Even if we don’t end up anywhere near those positions, the ambition will always be to finish as high as possible and win every single game, which is a mentality this club has rarely had when we’ve found ourselves in the Premier League.
What is our ceiling? Well, I don’t think we’re about to win the Premier League, but I fancy us to give just about anyone a game, and that coupled with the hard work and belief we’ve got in the side makes me think that we can have more days like we had at Chelsea.
