“Now, he’s struggling” – Brighton not keen to take player back in January

Over the weekend, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Evan Ferguson could return to Brighton in January.

His loan stint at AS Roma isn’t going to plan. He is yet to score for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, and has lost his starting spot after impressing in the first two games.

The Italian side are losing trust in the striker, with Artem Dovbyk increasingly the first-choice. The 20-year-old Brighton loanee is increasingly a topic of discussion in Italy.

RomaNews cover various journalists pointing out Ferguson’s problems.

Fabrizio Aspri spoke to Radio Radio Mattino, saying Brighton aren’t open to having the striker back.

“They’re working on sending Ferguson back to Brighton, but the English club wouldn’t say yes right away.”

Stefano Agresti also spoke about the Irishman, noting his struggles.

“I’m seeing overall improvement, even if not across everyone. Ferguson made a great impression on me, but now he’s struggling.”

Journalist Piero Torri believes that Dovbyk has showed more promising signs than Ferguson.

“Dovbyk or Ferguson? I think the former has a better chance than the latter. The Ukrainian showed some signs against Sassuolo.”

There’s been indications that he is facing problems with fitness and weight. Even Gasperini is aware of this, with the player also having acknowledged the issue.

Evidently, Ferguson has bigger concerns than just goals. The key should be to be fully fit and to settle into the Italian’s demanding system.

Gasperini has a reputation of bringing the most out of attackers. If Ferguson still doesn’t fire, it will be a concern for Brighton.
