He is one of the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorers, sitting just behind Harry Kane in the list.

Wayne Rooney’s Premier League five-a-side team features Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City players

Speaking on the latest episode of the Wayne Rooney Show, the ex-striker opted to select a very attacking line-up.

Rooney picked Chelsea duo Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer alongside Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

He said: “Current Premier League players Phil Foden, definitely. Okay. One um why have you picked him first? He was like you didn’t even have to think about that. Five-a-side, Phil Foden, tight areas, brilliant.

“Probably Cole Palmer as well in there. Saka.

“I’d put Caicedo in there. He’d be my defensive one but he can attack as well.

“Mo Salah. So, yeah, that would be me five players.”

Interestingly, despite his allegiance to the club, Rooney did not name a single Manchester United player for his team.

He did, however, select one man who is set to break an impressive record held by the 40-year-old.

Mohamed Salah to break Wayne Rooney record

Salah will break Rooney’s Premier League record for most goals and assists at a single club.

The former number nine scored 183 goals and provided 93 assists during his time at Old Trafford.

However, the Liverpool ace is just one goal contribution away from matching that record, already sitting on 275.

Salah has been off his game during the early stages of 2025/26, but even when struggling, he’s expected to surpass Rooney in the near future.
