Syracuse alum to call Super Bowl LX, host Milan Olympics coverage on same day

Syracuse, N.Y. —Syracuse University alum Mike Tirico has been on the call for some of the biggest events in sports for both NBC and ESPN, but hasn’t quite had the dream assignment he will compile in one day next year.

Tirico, one of the most prominent sports broadcasters trained at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and a member of the university’s Board of Trustees, will call Super Bowl XL for NBC Sports on February 8.

Right after the Lombardi Trophy presentation at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, Tirico will host Primetime in Milan– marking the start of his fifth Olympic primetime hosting assignment.

Tirico has one of the most accomplished careers in sports broadcasting in hosting NBC’s primetime Olympics coverage as well as the lead play-by-play voice for NBC’s coverage of the NFL and NBA.

Tirico spent 25 years at ESPN as a “SportsCenter” anchor, play-by-play announcer and radio host from 1991-2016 before moving to NBC.

Tirico was the first recipient of the Bob Costas scholarship for Newhouse student in 1987. He began his career at WTVH (now part of CNY Central) in Syracuse.

Fellow SU alums Noah Eagle and Ahmed Fareed have also drawn big assignments in a month that will see NBC broadcast Super Bowl LX, the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games and NBA All-Star Game.

Eagle will call the NBA All-Star Game on Feb. 15. One week earlier, he will join NBC Sports’ Super Bowl LX pregame show.

Fareed will serve as a daytime host for the Winter Games and as host of NBC Sports’ coverage of NBA All-Star Weekend from Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
