Newcastle Target Move For "Complete Player" Who Was Sold By Man United For £26M

Newcastle United are weighing up a move for Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, according to reports.

The Scotland international has been sensational since swapping Manchester United for Italy at the start of last season.

After sealing his €30m (£26m) switch to Napoli, McTominay went on to help them win the Serie A title, scoring 12 league goals in the process.

His form was so impressive that he managed to make it into the top 20 for the Ballon d’Or earlier this year.

TEAMtalk claim that the Magpies are hoping to bring McTominay back to the Premier League as they look to bolster their squad for the Champions League.

McTominay has been described as a “complete player”

Speaking about the 28-year-old’s impact back in May, Napoli boss Antonio Conte was effusive in his praise. The former Chelsea manager claimed McTominay had come on leaps and bounds after being given more first-team responsibilities:

“He feels more complete and knowledgeable and he’s reaching a key stage in his career where he needs to decide his direction. He never had a primary role at Man United, while here we gave him one, He’s worked hard and now he’s a complete player.”

Newcastle will have competition for the midfielder

TEAMtalk report that Eddie Howe‘s team will be joined by Tottenham and Barcelona if McTominay does become available for transfer in January or next summer.

At the moment, it is believed that a move is more likely to happen at the end of the season. The Scot is said to be very happy with life in Italy and he may only consider returning to England for the right project.

You would think that the Magpies would have to offer McTominay assurances about first-team football for a transfer to go ahead.
