NFL bold predictions: NFC East Week 9

It was a little touch-and-go for a couple of weeks, but the Eagles (6-2) have again opened a nice lead for themselves in the NFC East. The Cowboys (3-4-1), Commanders (3-5), and Giants (2-6) all lost last week and are starting to quickly fall out of contention for the division. Let’s dig into our NFC East Bold Predictions for Week 9 (and an extra trade prediction for the Eagles on their bye week).

The Giants will upset the 49ers

The Giants will be without both Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo for the rest of the season, but they still have Jaxson Dart. While the rookie doesn’t have much to work with beyond Wan’Dale Robinson, he’s shown signs of potentially being The Guy for the Giants. While the 49ers are 5-3, they haven’t exactly looked unbeatable this season. I’ll go with a 21-17 Giants upset.

Jaxson Dart will have his first 300-yard game

Jaxson Dart’s season-high is 283 passing yards, but he’s set up nicely to hit the 300-yard mark for the first time in his career this Sunday. While Dart doesn’t have much top-level receiving talent, he still has Wan’Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton, and Theo Johnson to throw the ball to. The 49ers are a bottom-10 pass defense, and Dart will likely be throwing a bunch this weekend.

Washington Commanders

The Commanders will lose their fourth game in a row this week

The Commanders have been fading fast after starting 2-0, and that’s largely been due to injuries to Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and Deebo Samuel. While Daniels and Samuel are likely to play against the Seahawks this week, McLaurin has already been ruled out. With a tough Seahawks team coming to town, I think we’ll see the Commanders exiting the week with a 3-6 record.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt will have a tough week

Jacory Croskey-Merritt has had a decent season, averaging almost five yards per carry, but he’ll come up against what is statistically the best run defense in the league this week. The Seahawks defense is allowing just 75.7 rushing yards per game while allowing a league-low 3.3 yards per carry and just two rushing touchdowns on the year. Croskey-Merritt will finish this one with under 40 rushing yards on the day.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys will get back to .500 this week

Dallas has had a weird season in that they haven’t lost two games in a row, but haven’t won two games in a row either. The Cowboys will host the Cardinals on Monday Night Football this week after getting blown out by Denver last week. Their season-long pattern would tell us that they’re going to win this week, but I’ll go with the win happening because the Cowboys are a better team than the Cardinals. 31-27, Dallas.

Dak Prescott will go for over 300 yards this week

Dak Prescott had his worst game of the season last week, but things get much easier with the Cardinals coming to town. Arizona has allowed 234.9 passing yards per game this season, which is eighth-worst in the league. With CeeDee Lamb healthy, Prescott has a full arsenal of weapons and will throw for at least 300 yards.

Bye week bold prediction: The Eagles will trade A.J. Brown

Is this a case of addition by subtraction? The Eagles had over 400 yards of offense without Brown in Week 8, and it was arguably their best offensive performance of the season. While Brown has had a couple of monster games this season, he’s also had a few MIA games. And there have been obvious signs of at least some level of dysfunction in the Eagles’ locker room. I’ll make the bold prediction that the Eagles deal A.J. Brown to the Buffalo Bills for a 2026 first-rounder.
