The Miami Dolphins fell short Thursday night at Hard Rock Stadium, dropping a 28–6 decision to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9. Despite the loss, running back De'Von Achane continued to pace the offense with 106 total yards, while rookie safety Dante Trader Jr. and linebacker Tyrel Dodson anchored a defense that battled throughout the night.
Miami opened the game with early momentum. Wide receiver Dwayne Eskridge's 25-yard kickoff return set up solid field position, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa quickly connected with wide receiver Jaylen Waddle for a 20-yard gain on the opening snap. Kicker Riley Patterson capped the five-play drive with a 49-yard field goal, giving the Dolphins a 3–0 lead just under three minutes into the contest.
The Ravens answered after forcing a turnover deep in Miami territory. Following a fumble recovery by Ravens safety Alohi Gilman at the Dolphins' 1-yard line, quarterback Lamar Jackson found tight end Mark Andrews on fourth down for a 2-yard touchdown, putting Baltimore ahead 7–3 midway through the first quarter.
Tagovailoa and the Dolphins responded with a 62-yard drive, highlighted by a 22-yard rush from Achane that moved Miami into field goal range. However, Patterson's 35-yard attempt drifted right — only his second miss of the season. Baltimore extended its lead to 14–3 early in the second quarter when Jackson connected with Andrews again for a 20-yard touchdown.
Miami trimmed the deficit to 14–6 with 7:57 remaining in the half after Patterson converted a 43-yard field goal. The Dolphins' defense forced three consecutive three-and-outs before halftime, and defensive tackle Benito Jones recorded his first sack of the season for a loss of 10 yards. Offensively, Achane's consistent production on the ground helped move the chains, while Waddle and tight end Greg Dulcich combined for key receptions that brought Miami into scoring range late in the half.
After the break, Baltimore regained momentum. Jackson led an 11-play, 68-yard drive that ended with a 3-yard touchdown pass to tight end Charlie Kolar to make it 21–6. On the next series, the Ravens struck again when wide receiver Rashod Bateman hauled in a 9-yard touchdown reception at the 4:15 mark of the third quarter. Ravens kicker Tyler Loop nailed the extra point to extend the margin to 28–6.
Tagovailoa continued to move the ball through the air, connecting with Waddle and wide receiver Malik Washington for gains that pushed Miami across midfield late in the third quarter. Dulcich remained a reliable target underneath, finishing with five receptions for 49 yards as the Dolphins continued to battle through the final quarter.
Tagovailoa finished 25-of-40 passing for 261 yards and one interception, while Achane totaled 106 scrimmage yards on 20 touches and Waddle led all Miami receivers with six catches for 82 yards.
On defense, Trader Jr. led Miami with 12 tackles (seven solo), while Dodson added nine tackles (four solo) and one tackle for loss. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks contributed eight tackles (two solo). Additionally, Jones and linebacker Jaelan Phillips each registered a sack.
For Baltimore, Jackson completed 18-of-23 passes for 204 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Derrick Henry added 119 rushing yards on 19 carries, while Bateman, Andrews and Kolar combined for four scores.
The Dolphins will be back in action at Hard Rock Stadium Sunday, November 9 as they host the Buffalo Bills. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET with coverage on CBS.
