The Premier League Panel: Is Fabian Schär the best bargain in PL history?
The latest Fantasy Premier League injury news ahead of Gameweek 10 - with updates on Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, William Saliba and more.
Another Fantasy Premier League deadline is fast approaching, and to make sure you’re up to speed with all the latest selection news, 3 Added Minutes’ FPL expert is here with his regular injury updates ahead of Gameweek 10.
Perhaps the biggest worry for many managers is Erling Haaland, who picked up a knock last weekend and was left out of the midweek EFL Cup win over Swansea City. Elsewhere, William Saliba, Chris Wood and Alexander Isak are among the widely-owned assets who may miss time this weekend, and we’ve kept across the pre-match press conferences and all the latest media reports to bring you all the updates you’ll need ahead of Saturday’s late 13:30 GMT deadline.
Alexander Isak & William Saliba among big FPL names injured ahead of Gameweek 10
Erling Haaland: Haaland was hurt against Aston Villa when he smashed into a goalpost while stretching to score an equaliser that was disallowed – and Pep Guardiola described the Norwegian as “day by day” as a result of the knock.
The City manager unhelpfully added that he didn’t “know yet” whether Haaland would play this weekend, but that he was hopeful he would be available. We suspect he’ll be just fine, but it might be worth thinking about your captaincy chip until we get confirmation that he’s in one piece. Rodri, incidentally, still isn’t ready to return.
Alexander Isak: A groin injury has troubled the Swedish striker of late and there has been speculation that he may require surgery – but that remains speculation for now. Still, he looks unlikely to be involved against Aston Villa on Saturday evening, with Arne Slot telling the media that he has yet to return to training as of Friday morning – and is “99% sure” to be unavailable.
Ryan Gravenberch, Alisson & Jeremie Frimpong: There’s better news for Ryan Gravenberch, who is back in training and look set to play at least some part. Goalkeeper Alisson remains out and is likely to miss at least one more league match, while luckless full-back Frimpong is expected to be out for around six weeks thanks to a hamstring injury.
William Saliba: Mikel Arteta is rarely completely forthcoming in his press conferences and he was typically imprecise with Saliba’s situation. The centre-back missed the midweek win over Brighton with a minor injury and his manager simply told the press that he will wait and see whether he can be involved against Burnley. Gabriel Martinelli, however, is definitely out.
Chris Wood: The striker’s struggles in front of goal means that he’s a less popular FPL asset than he was last season but he’s still in a fair number of teams – not that he’ll be much use this weekend. The New Zealander remains out with a knee injury, and Sean Dyche confirmed on Thursday that he “won’t make this one.” He should be back for Leeds United next week, however.
Cristian Romero, Omar Alderete and more among Fantasy Premier League doubts
Cristian Romero: The Spurs centre-back is a relatively popular asset thanks to his team’s impressive defensive record, but has missed the last couple of matches with what Thomas Frank has described as a “minor injury.” He is training on grass but is a major doubt for this weekend – at least he shouldn’t be out for any great length of time, but with fixture difficulty ramping up soon he could be a sell anyway. Guglielmo Vicario owners should note that he’s expected to play despite a knock.
Omar Alderete: The Sunderland centre-back is a popular budget enabler but missed the win over Chelsea while he clears the Premier League’s concussion protocol. It has not yet been announced whether he will be able to play against Everton this weekend and as such remains a serious doubt.
Kaoru Mitoma: The Japanese winger has been out for a little while now and despite reports suggesting that he has been inching towards a return for over a fortnight, it sounds like he won’t be involved this time either – Fabian Hürzeler told the media that none of Brighton’s recently injured players were expected to return to face Leeds United. Mitoma is likely to be back before the international break, however.
Chris Richards: Crystal Palace defenders are in vogue these days, and Richards is a good for enough defensive contribution points to be worth a punt on – but the American is a doubt this weekend with a minor calf injury. We have no clarity on whether or not he will play.
