Barcelona key defender returns to group training; two stars await medical clearance before…

As FC Barcelona continued their preparations for Sunday’s La Liga encounter against Elche, there was a welcome boost in today’s training session.

Pau Cubarsi returned to group training after having not been involved in sessions over the past couple of days, confirms Mundo Deportivo.

After Tuesday’s rest day, Cubarsi was granted special permission by the coaching staff not to train on Wednesday.

On Thursday, he reported to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, but was not a part of the group session and worked in the gym instead.

There was no physical issue involved, and the decision for Cubarsi to train individually was part of a scheduled training plan to manage his workload.

Earlier today, though, the young defender trained normally with the group under Hansi Flick’s supervision and is expected to be available for Sunday’s match against Elche at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic.

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo also trained as usual today and are expected to receive medical clearance in the next couple of days to be included in the squad to face Elche.

Both Lewandowski and Olmo returned from the international break with injuries, but resumed training with the group this week.

Having successfully completed multiple sessions, the pair is now poised to receive the green light from the medical department and be included in the squad to face Eder Sarabia’s side this weekend.

It will come as a big boost for a Barcelona side riddled with injury problems across the pitch.

Meanwhile, the likes of Gavi, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Andreas Christensen, Raphinha, and Pedri remain unavailable for selection.

Joan Garcia has also resumed working on the pitch, but is unlikely to be risked against Elche. His return could take place against Celta Vigoin early November.
