After ending his 16-year stay at Spurs over the summer, one of our own and Academy graduate goalkeeperĀ Alfie Whiteman has called time on his playing career.
Having received a UEFA Europa League winners' medal in May, the lifelong Spurs fan has decided to step aside from professional football to pursue a new career as a photographer and film director.
A mascot for the first team at six years old, Alfie joined our Academy as a 10-year-old and progressed through the youth system before making his senior debut at 22 in a Europa League tie against Ludogorets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November, 2020.
That would remain his sole first-team appearance for the Club with the goalkeeper then moving on loan to Swedish outfit Degerfors from August 2021, making 34 appearances across his 18-month spell in the Allsvenskan.
Returning to north London at the start of 2023, Alfie sustained an unfortunate broken ankle that required surgery during pre-season ahead of the 2023/24 season and ruled him out for almost the entirety of the campaign.
The 27-year-old, capped 17 times for England at youth level between Under-16 and Under-19, worked hard on his rehab and was named in our 2024/25 Europa League squad. Despite not making an appearance, the stopper was on the bench for the final four league phase matches and throughout the knockout stages on our way to lifting the European trophy on that glory night in Bilbao.
Born and raised in Tottenham, a stone's throw from our Stadium, he was then proudly riding through his own neighbourhood on a bus during the incredible trophy parade as thousands of Spurs supporters lined the streets in N17 to join our players in celebration.
Wishing you all the best with your future endeavours, Alfie.
