Jordan Pickford shares his thoughts on The Friedkin Group as Everton owners face important 2026

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford believes The Friedkin Group are really trying to build for a positive future.

Everton lost to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon, as David Moyes’ side fell to a 3-0 defeat.

The Toffees just couldn’t break Spurs down, and the mixed start to the Premier League season continues.

From the first nine games, Everton have won three, drawn two and lost four to sit 14th in the Premier League table.

Moyes will be looking for more consistent results and performances, all while knowing that these are early days for Everton’s new era.

Everton brought Moyes back to the club earlier this year, but the new era really started in December 2024.

The Friedkin Group completed their takeover of Everton as Dan Friedkin and co brought the Farhad Moshiri era to an end.

Friedkin has some experience in football, having purchased Italian side Roma in 2020.

Roma’s fortunes have been mixed in that time, but Jordan Pickford is seeing encouraging signs at Everton.

Speaking to Everton’s official website, Pickford noted that The Friedkin Group want to move the Toffees ‘forward’ – and have already shown that desire.

Pickford feels that Moyes is on the same page as Everton’s new ownership and believes the dark days are now over.

The Everton stopper still knows there is a long way to go, but he is clearly optimistic of future success.

“I think the dark days are behind us and it’s about building that momentum as a team and the Club now,” said Pickford. “I think it’s the whole deal, really.

“The new owners have come in and have shown they want to move us forward. The manager, since he has come in, has shown that, too, and us as players on the pitch

“The manager wanted us to continue our form [from the end of last season] into this one, and he’ll keep pushing us.

“We’ve started well and we want to keep building that momentum and get Everton Football Club back to a team that competes in Europe. We know it’s tough to do, but it’s a journey we want to go on, and it’s hard work that we’ll put in as a club.

“We want to have that direction and, hopefully, one day we’ll lift some silverware as well,” he added.

The Friedkin Group face spending big money at Everton and Roma

Everton invested in players for the future over the summer, as the likes of Adam Aznou, Merlin Rohl, Tyler Dibling and Thierno Barry all joined.

Everton are yet to see returns from those players, but Jack Grealish has made a strong impact after joining on loan.

This Everton squad is still a work in progress, and it’s clear that The Friedkin Group must invest more money in 2026.

Everton need another right-back, more quality in midfield and a true goalscorer – signings which won’t come cheap.

Roma are also in a new era under Gian Piero Gasperini, and while they sit second in Serie A, they still need more quality.

The Friedkin Group will have to find funds for both Everton and Roma to kick on and reach the next level, with big investment required.
