Broncos vs. Texans predictions: Final score picks for NFL Week 9

While the Denver Broncos opened slight road favorites earlier this week, that line has shifted towards the Houston Texans. The home team is now favored in this game. People believe this game is as close as it gets and for the 6-2 Broncos it could spell ‘trap’ for them as they prepare for back-to-back home games against division rivals.

Collectively, our Mile High Report staff is predicting a Broncos 25-17 road win over the Texans. While we all predicted a win, some of us are more confident than others. At the end of the day, all we hope for is a 7-2 record.

Here’s how each of us predicted things would go individually:

Broncos 17, Texans 16

This one is going to be closer than anyone expects. The Texans defense is legit and has kept nearly every game close. Their offense finally woke up from their poor start and have turned an 0-3 record into a 3-4 record. A win this week would catapult the Texans back into the AFC playoff discussion. While I think it will be tight, I see a late game-winner from October’s AFC Special Teams Player of the Month, Wil Lutz. Give me 7-2! - Tim Lynch

Broncos 24, Texans 16

Denver goes from facing the best offense in the league to one of the best defenses in the league, but that is a challenge they should be able to overcome. All of October did nothing but prove that they can win these gritty and close games. And even without the best defensive player in the league, they should be able to stifle this Houston passing attack. If they can blanket the Cowboys, they should be all over the Texans. Just need the offense to put up some points. - Ross Allen

Broncos 23, Texans 20

The Denver Broncos face one hell of a challenge this week. The Texans have a dangerous offense and a stout defense who are well coached much like the Broncos. I think this is a close game that I expect we win because of pass rushing advantage leading to turnovers in our favor. - Sadaraine

Broncos 31, Texans 13

Texans have feasted on poor competition as of late which has inflated their defensive rankings. They’re still a tough defense, but not one the Broncos offense can’t handle. I expect the Broncos to win by multiple scores fueled by their pass rush making life hell for CJ Stroud. Broncos, Bo Nix, and their defense stays hot and improves to 7-2. - Scotty Payne

Broncos 30, Texans 14

The Broncos have been on quite the run recently. Now they take the show to Houston to face a team that has been in the ascendancy the last few weeks. The challenges for Denver will include overcoming a good defense while playing on the road. Bo Nix has taken control of the offense, but the running attack has also found its stride. That should continue. The other challenge facing the Broncos is the injury to Pat Surtain. The defense will have to adjust, with Nico Collins having the potential to cause havoc in the secondary. I still think the Broncos can get a big road win. -Adam Malnati

Broncos 20, Texans 16

Three of the Texans’ four losses have come against teams that are top 10 in Pass Rush Win Rate, while the Broncos currently rank 4th there at 45%. Also, the Texans’ 3 wins over their last 4 games came against two teams tied for 30th in sack production (49ers & Ravens, 9 each) and the #21 team in sack production (Titans, 16). Those three teams’ combined 34 sacks don’t even equal the Broncos’ 36, and it feels like the Texans’ O-line is getting a little more faith than they perhaps deserve. Flexibility has been a highlight of how Vance Joseph calls this defense, and I think that will show out this Sunday as the Broncos frustrate Stroud & company and do enough to win on offense. - Taylor Kothe

Broncos 24, Texans 20

This is a game I feel is going to be won in the trenches. Whoever can establish the run and protect their quarterback best will likely reign victorious. Denver’s pass rush is dominant, and the Texans have given up 15 sacks the last six games. I think Denver’s ability to rattle Stroud makes all the difference in this one. It’ll be a tough and close game, but I’m giving the edge to the Broncos. - Chris Hart

Broncos 31, Texans 17

Denver’s offense just played its best game of the season and will ride that momentum to a big win over the Texans. The defense will make life absolutely miserable for Stroud all game long, helping to minimize the loss of Surtain. And while the Broncos will be without the best cornerback in football, a huge loss, they’ll get Greenlaw back. It also helps to have the best pass rush in the NFL. As for the offense, the duo of Dobbins and Harvey is quickly becoming one of the best in the league and will have another good day. In the process, the success in the running game will set up Nix and the passing game to make big plays. - Ian St. Clair
