Mike Brown drops blunt admission on Knicks’ season start

The New York Knicks are off to a fairly good start in this 2025-26 season.

In the Eastern Conference standing, the Knicks are currently 2-2, reeling from back-to-back losses against the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks.

It has been a shaky progress so far, but Mike Brown stands optimistic about his team's direction.

As such, he kept it straightforward about when he can fully assess the Knicks’ performance for this year.

“It’ll take some time,” the Knicks coach said, via Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. “It’s hard to get a true evaluation in the first five to 10 games. I think y’all have been in this league long enough, the first month or month and a half, everybody feels like they have a chance and guys are playing hard and engaged and sometimes you have teams that are on top, they’re not going to finish on top.

“Because teams are trying to find their way. So we’re just evaluating not just [one player], but everybody. Not just the defense, but the offense too. Keep doing that. Come about December or end of November, we should have a pretty good feel.”

Brown’s notion is entirely valid. It's been just over a week since the new season began, and the Knicks are still definitely adjusting to a new system after Tom Thibodeau’s coaching dismissal.

But since they have high championship aspirations, both Brown and New York have to act accordingly in addressing their concerns. After being one of the league's top offensive teams last year, the Knicks are now at the bottom thus far and ranked 27th in points (110.5) as well as 28th in field goal shooting (40.6%) averages.

The Knicks have a chance to improve themselves and snap their losing skid as they'll face the Chicago Bulls for a Friday Halloween showdown.
